Immigration Evaluations – FAQ
What is a psychosocial immigration evaluation?
A psychosocial immigration evaluation is a clinical assessment conducted by a licensed mental health professional to document the emotional, psychological, and social factors relevant to your immigration case. The evaluation provides detailed insight into your mental health, history, and functioning, and it is used by your immigration attorney to support your legal petition.
What types of immigration cases do you evaluate?
I provide virtual evaluations for the following case types:
-
Extreme Hardship Waivers (I-601, I-601A)
-
VAWA Petitions (for survivors of domestic violence)
-
U Visas (for victims of certain crimes)
-
T Visas (for victims of human trafficking)
-
Asylum Claims
If you're unsure which category your case falls into, your attorney can clarify which evaluation is appropriate.
Are evaluations conducted in person?
No. All services are provided 100% virtually through secure, HIPAA-compliant video platforms. This makes the process more flexible and accessible, especially for clients with transportation, privacy, or scheduling concerns.
What’s included in the evaluation?
The evaluation process includes:
-
One or two virtual clinical interviews (60–90 minutes)
-
A comprehensive written report tailored to your legal case
-
Optional coordination with your attorney
-
Delivery of the final report within 10–14 business days (or sooner if expedited)
How long does the process take?
The entire process typically takes 5–10 business days from the date of your final interview. Expedited reports are available within 5–7 business days for an additional fee.
Can you work with my attorney?
Absolutely. I frequently coordinate with immigration attorneys to ensure that the report addresses the specific legal questions needed for your case. With your consent, I can send the report directly to your attorney and consult with them as needed.
What if English is not my first language?
If you need language support during your evaluation, HIPPA compliant trained interpreter services will be available for an additional fee. Please let me know in advance if interpretation will be needed so I can make accommodations.
Will this affect my therapy?
Immigration evaluations are separate from ongoing therapy services. While I offer trauma-informed therapy, evaluations are considered a forensic service. If you’re already working with a therapist, you can continue that care separately.
